Elevated
South Carolina’s only true mountaintop golf course is also one of the state’s most acclaimed. The Glassy course sits more than 3,000 feet above sea level, offering majestic views from its incomparable perch. This course has been ranked fourth most scenic in the nation, behind only Cypress Point, Pebble Beach and Augusta National — and when you arrive at the signature 13th hole, you’ll see why.
Multiple tees range from 4,694 – 6,805 yards from the tips.
Standard 72, but uneven lies and undulating greens keep everyone honest.
Rating ranges from 67.4 – 73.0, but take notice of the slope from the back tees – 119.0 – 146.0.
Bentgrass tees, greens and fairways coupled with Kentucky bluegrass rough. Tight fairways, dramatic elevation changes and breathtaking views.
Tom Jackson, former President of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
Fourth Most Scenic Course in the Nation and Best in State, both according to Golf Digest.
Tom Jackson immediately recognized the honor of designing The Cliffs’ original course at Glassy. “As a golf course designer every project is a new and exciting challenge. For me, The Cliffs at Glassy took the word challenge to a higher level. From my initial visit to the mountain, I knew we had been given a special opportunity to create a world-class golf experience in South Carolina.”
The course’s eighteen ascend and descend Glassy Mountain. The views are spellbinding. Number one runs along a long lake fed by a waterfall, daylilies fringing the tee box. The third plays straight into an incredible view of a sheer granite cliff face. And, of course, the 75-mile views from the signature 13th will take your breath away.
A distinguishing feature of membership at The Cliffs at Glassy is that the experience goes far beyond the course itself. Members benefit from an extraordinarily talented and diverse collection of teaching professionals and exceptional facilities.
Each of The Cliffs’ golf shops offers everything for looking smart and gearing up for your next round. They also each specialize in a different aspect of the game. At Glassy, the specialty is putters. And what golfer isn’t ready to try a new model? After all, half the strokes on the course are on the green and any advantage improves the scorecard.
Tom Jackson The Architect
A 2007 inductee into the Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame, Tom Jackson received his training from two of the country’s leading golf course architects: Robert Trent Jones and George Cobb. Since then, he has helped build more than 124 courses across the nation. Jackson observes, “The course atop Glassy Mountain is surely my best. The way it folds into the contours of the land… something very special happened there.”
Kris Kleinsasser The Pro
“Often referred to as the signature hole at Glassy, 13 is simply breathtaking. From the moment you approach the tee, you are treated to some of the most stunning views any course could offer. The tee shot requires a mid- to short-iron shot for most golfers to a green that is sloped from front to back. A well-positioned shot under the hole will be rewarded with an uphill putt. Choose your club wisely, as any tee shots that are long… well, let’s say it’s quite a drop off the back.”
Emily White Member Perspective
“From the Ladies Member/Guest to the ‘The Champion of Champions’ tournament and the Halloween scramble and progressive dinner… I’ve never had so much fun playing golf! I’m so proud to be a member at The Cliffs at Glassy, and it’s because of the team that we have here and their attention to detail.”
The Glassy Clubhouse is always alive by virtue of a close-knit membership that loves to gather together. The clubhouse is a natural — and simply beautiful — destination that overlooks the island putting green and course beyond.
The Cliffs at Glassy team knows how to throw a party — so much so that the people who rate parties have taken notice:
At Glassy, an island green is a dramatic foreground to a classic clubhouse. It’s a green where members exchange the news of the day before heading out the first tee. It’s also where our pros offer regular teaching sessions. It’s a festive location for post-tournament parties. If any course had a spectacular and purposeful grand stage, it’s here at Glassy.
“Standing on the first tee box at The Cliffs at Glassy as a guest in 2010, I was immediately struck with ‘Glassy Fever.’ A beautiful waterfall flanked the ladies’ tee box on the right and a pristine fairway beckoned ahead. Each subsequent hole seemed even more beautiful than the preceding one, affording breathtaking mountain views and a course that was in impeccable shape. We were sold! Our life at Glassy is a dream come true — world class golf, wonderful friends, year-round outdoor activities in clean mountain air, peaceful serenity and nature at its finest!”
